Charlie’s 92-Kilometre Adventure – Charlie's Catio Realisation

Well, hello there, hoomans.

My name’s Charlie, and I’ve got quite the tail… I mean, tale to tell you.

It all started on what I thought would be a regular day at my foster home in Botha’s Hill. A bit of breakfast, a nap in the sun, maybe some zoomies across the garden. But no - little did I know, I was about to embark on an adventure of a lifetime.

You see, curiosity may not have killed the cat, but it certainly got me into a bit of a pickle. While exploring outside, I found a warm, snuggly spot inside a parked car. Perfect for a little catnap, right? Wrong. The car started moving… and I had no idea what was happening!

Before I knew it, I was zooming down the road - only not the fun, running-around-the-house kind of zoomies. Proper zooming. For 92 kilometres. By the time the car stopped, I was somewhere completely unfamiliar - a big complex outside Ballito. I had no clue where I was, but I did what any self-respecting kitten would do: I explored.

Meanwhile, back home, my foster mum was panicking. She searched high and low - under beds, in cupboards, even behind the fridge. But I was well and truly gone.

Then, something magical happened. A kind hooman in the complex (actually the one who drove me down) spotted me wandering about. I must have looked a bit lost (or maybe just ridiculously handsome), because they took a picture and sent it to my foster mum. And just like that - bingo! - she knew it was me!

A rescue mission was set in motion, and thanks to some very lovely, quick-thinking people, I was safely returned home. Completely unharmed, just a bit miffed about missing dinner.

But here’s the thing: my little adventure was a huge wake-up call. Foster kittens like me love exploring, but we also need to be safe. That’s why my hoomans are launching a BackaBuddy initiative to raise funds for building secure outdoor catios - places where foster cats can have all the fun of the outside world without the risk of sneaky car rides or dangerous situations.

I was lucky.

Not every lost kitten is.

With your help, we can make sure more foster cats enjoy the outdoors safely.

So, what do you say? Will you help a kitty out? 😺✨
